Bangkok night curfew to be extended
May 24th, 2010 - 10:11 pm ICT by IANSBangkok, May 24 (IANS) Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thuagsuban said Monday he would propose extending the curfew in Bangkok and some other areas for seven more nights.
Suthep said the anti-government “underground movement” is still active and plans to cause chaos, although the protest ended and red-shirt leaders surrendered, Xinhua reported quoting the Nation newspaper.
The Centre for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) Sunday extended the curfew through Sunday and Monday nights, after it was imposed in Bangkok and 23 other provinces May 19, following the arson and violence by some hardcore red-shirt protesters.
The protest leaders had announced the end of the rally after troops carried out a dispersion operation May 19.
