Aung San Suu Kyi to run in April by-polls
January 10th, 2012 - 8:46 pm ICT by IANSYangon, Jan 10 (IANS) Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been confirmed to participate in the upcoming parliamentary byelections set for April 1, Xinhua quoted her party spokesperson as saying Tuesday.
As one of National League for Democracy (NLD) candidates, Suu Kyi will contest from a constituency in Yangon region, said spokesperson U Ohn Kyaing.
The exact constituency will be made known when the candidate list is formally submitted to the Union Election Commission early next week, Kyaing added.
The commission Tuesday prescribed last two weeks of January as the period for submission of candidate lists for vacant constituencies to be contested by political parties in the upcoming by-elections to parliament.
