Boston, Dec. 09, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Attorney General Martha Coakley has received the nomination of the Democrats to represent the party in the general elections of 19 January, 2010. She and Republican candidate State Senator Scott Brown will race for the Massachusetts seat in the US Senate that has been vacated after the death of Senator Edward Kennedy. The results of this election will have high significance for the democratic party, as it would determine party’s 60 seat majority in the Senate House.
Attorney General Martha Coakley had defeated three other democratic candidates in Tuesday elections and will contest for her party in the election scheduled next month. According to the reports, General Martha Coakley had won against democratic challengers Alan Khazei [ the co-founder of City Year], Stephen Pagliuca [co-owner of Boston Celtics] and Rep. Michael Capuano. As female candidates do not get much votes in Massachusetts’ election, the victory of Attorney General Martha Coakley is of great importance.
Attorney General Martha Coakley’s win is expected to be advantageous to the party and she is considered to be a strong contender for the seat of Senator Edward Kennedy. It has been reported that Attorney General Martha Coakley has planned the preliminary steps of campaign before Edward Kennedy’s death itself. She secured web addresses, printed signs and hired campaign staffs, which helped her progress easily after the death of the Senator. Attorney General Martha Coakley has a good record as state attorney general and it is speculated that she has maximum chances of winning the elections that will help her represent the seat that was once held by John. F. Kennedy. If she wins the Senate seat then she would be Massachusetts’ first woman Senator.
