Jaipur, Nov 7 (IANS) Around 50 percent polling was reported Saturday in bypolls from Rajasthan’s two assembly constituencies of Todabhim and Salumber where the main battle is between the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“The polling, which was completely peaceful, should be in the region of around 50 percent,” an election department official told IANS, adding that the final percentage would only be known late in the evening.
The by-elections were called after legislator Kirori Lal Meena, an independent from Todabhim, and Raghuveer Meena from Salumber, vacated their seats after getting elected to the Lok Sabha.
In Todabhim, the fight is mainly between Congress’s Shivdayal Meena and BJP’s Ramesh Chand Meena. Congress candidate Basanti and BJP’s Amrat Lal are fighting it out in Salumber.
There was not much enthusiasm among the voters in either constituency as in the past one year, they have already voted in both assembly and parliamentary elections.
During the 2008 state assembly elections, over 79 percent polling was reported from Todabhim while over 62 percent had cast their votes in Salumber.
