Mumbai, April 23 (IANS) Voting ended Thursday evening in 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra with an average of around 50 percent of the electorate exercising their franchise.
“The average voting was 14.4 percent till 11 a.m., and was 36 percent at 3 p.m. It is expected to touch 50 percent after we tabulate the final figures from all the constituencies,” an election commission official told IANS here.
The second phase of elections passed off peacefully, barring a minor incident of violence in Sindhudurg district.
A total of 372 candidates, including 20 women, were in the fray in the 25 constituencies that went to the polls. Of the total 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, 13 had gone to the polls April 16 while the remaining 10 take part in the third - and final - phase April 30.
