Phoenix, June 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The illegal immigration controversy in the state of Arizona has been fueled once again after Governor Jan Brewer made a rather controversial comment calling immigrants ‘drug mule.’ On Friday, the governor of Arizona stated that most of the immigrants who come to the state are being used as drug mules as the drugs rings force them to transport drugs. However, the remark made by Jan Brewer has grabbed many eyeballs with many critics slamming the statement as ‘racist’ as well as ‘exaggerated.’
While making the statement on Friday, the Arizona Governor added that a large number of illegal immigrants enter United States in search of work but they are transformed into ‘drug mules’ by the drug rackets. Moreover, Jan Brewers went on to emphasize that majority of trespassers who are illegally entering the state are bringing drugs to the state as they are under the control of the drug cartels. The comments made by the Arizona governor was enough to spark a fresh new controversy due to which her office later issued a statement which reiterated the comments made by Jan Brewers.
Oscar Martinez, a history professor of the University of Arizona asked the governor to furnish appropriate data to substantiate her claims about the illegal immigrants entering Arizona being ‘drug mules.’ The professor further went on to say that if Jan Brewer had no data to support her claims and was just making the statements due to political reasons then she should apologize to the people of Arizona. Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the U.S. Border Patrol also refused to agree with the comments made by the Arizona governor.
