AP to mourn Reddy’s death for a week

Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Sept 3 (IBNS) The Andhra Pradesh government Thursday announced a week-long mourning starting Friday for the untimely death of Chief Minister YSR Reddy in an air crash atop Serai Salem hill at Kurnool district.

“The Andhar Pradesh government is grief-stricken at the sudden demise of Chief Minister YSR Reddy in helicopter crash. Thereby, it declares a seven-day mourning from Sept 4-9, across the state in his memory,” said a government release circulated among the media.

“The national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout Andhra Pradesh and there will be no official entertainment during the period,” the government release said.

According to the release, all government offices, schools and colleges in the state remained closed today and will remain shut also on the day of funeral of the 60-year-old Congress man.

The Bell 430 helicopter carrying Reddy, two of his staff and two pilots went missing in pouring rain Wednesday morning over the Naxal and tiger-infested Nalamalla forests and with no contact until early Thursday.

An Indian Air Force helicopter located the crashed Bell 430 aircraft on top of Serai Salem hill at a distance of 40 nautical miles (74 km) east of Kurnool Thursday. Andhra CM YSR Reddy, Principal Secretary S Subramanyam, Chief Security Officer ASC Wesley and two pilots - Group Captain SK Bhatia and Captain MS Reddy, died in the air crash.
