Raipur, Jan 5 (IANS) Chhattisgarh announced Monday it would take a number of security measures including setting up of a commando battalion and anti-terrorist control room in all the 18 districts of the states to combat Maoists and also to deal with possible terror attacks. In his address to the state assembly Monday, Governor E.S.L Narasimhan said: “Naxalism and terrorism are two sides of the same coin as they pose threat to internal security.”
“The Nov 26 Mumbai terror act shook the entire country but the act has strengthened peoples’ resolve to fight terrorism in all forms,” he said.
He announced that the state government has decided to convert a state armed force (SAF) battalion into a commando force to deal with any incidents of urban terrorism.
He added that the state’s police force strength has substantially increased to 46,425 as compared to just 22,592 when Chhattisgarh came into existence in Nov 2000 after it was carved out of Madhya Pradesh.
