Ralegan Siddhi (Maharashtra), Aug 4 (IANS) Expressing discontent over the government’s version of the anti-graft Lokpal bill, social activist Anna Hazare Thursday vowed to go on fast Aug 16 and urged people to join the “peaceful protest”, calling it the country’s “second freedom struggle”.

“Every citizen should go on fast from wherever possible - village or city. The more people protest against the bill, the more pressure will be created on the government,” Hazare told reporters at Ralegan Siddhi, 230 km from Mumbai.

“The movement should spread to the entire country,” he added.

“The government is not willing to eradicate corruption. Aug 16 will mark the second freedom struggle in this country,” he said.

In Ghaziabad, near the Indian capital, civil society activists burnt the copy of the government’s version of the bill that was introduced in parliament Thursday.
