Anna Hazare gains support in Gujarat

Narendra Modi Gandhinagar, April 6 (IANS) Support for Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption is gathering steam in Gujarat.

After the relay fast in Ahmedabad and Vadodara Tuesday, concerned citizens in smaller towns are now getting into the act in the state, according to reports reaching here.

Danseuse and activist Mallika Sarabhai took part in the Ahmedabad hunger strike, while two former ministers of the Narendra Modi government joined the fast in Vadodara.

Surat, Bhavnagar, Wankaner and Morbi are all set to join the bandwagon.

Vinod Pandya, the Gujarat convener of “India Against Corruption”, said Wednesday that the relay hunger strikes that continued at the Town Hall in Ahmedabad since Tuesday drew tremendous response.

In Vadodara, former police commissioner Jaspal Singh and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nalin Bhatt joined the hunger strike Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Mallika Sarabhai has termed as political gimmick the BJP support to Anna Hazare, who is on hunger strike in New Delhi demanding a stringent anti-corruption law.
