Hyderabad, Dec 13 (IANS) The political impasse in Andhra Pradesh over the Telangana issue continued Sunday but state ministers from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions who Saturday decided to resign agreed to meet following an appeal of the chief minister to reconsider their move.
The 20 ministers, who Saturday decided to quit, are meeting Sunday evening following an appeal of Chief Minister K. Rosaiah and state Congress chief D. Srinivas not to press their resignations.
The ministers Saturday announced their decision to quit to protest the move to divide the state for a proposed Telangana.
Thirteen ministers from Telangana region, who were also planning to resign, will be meeting separately.
Congress sources said that the ministers of all the three regions would hold a joint meeting to resolve the crisis later. The move comes amid growing speculation that the state could come under President’s rule.
Rosaiah had Saturday conveyed to the party’s central leadership the ministers’ decision to resign.
Sources said the leadership asked Rosaiah to convince the ministers not to take any hasty step as this could lead to imposition of president’s rule.
As many as 138 legislators, including 80 of the Congress party, from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions have already submitted their resignations to the assembly speaker.
State Congress president Srinivas appealed to all those who have resigned to withdraw their resignations to avert a crisis.
Talking to reporters, Srinivas said the central leadership would address their concerns.
Srinivas said he had no information that the party leadership was sending emissaries to resolve the crisis.
