Hyderabad, Dec 16 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah Wednesday met Governor N.D. Tiwari as the political deadlock continued over the proposed division of the state.
Raj Bhavan sources said the chief minister apprised Governor Tiwari of the political developments in the state following the Dec 10 announcement of the central government to initiate the process for the formation of a separate Telangana state.
The meeting, which lasted for half-an-hour, assumed significance as it came a day after legislators of the ruling Congress party and the Praja Rajyam Party from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions met the governor and sought his intervention to stop the proposed bifurcation of the state.
The legislators apprised Tiwari of the agitation in both the regions against the move to grant separate statehood to Telangana.
About 140 members of the state assembly, including 80 belonging to the Congress, have already submitted their resignations to the assembly speaker to protest the central government’s move.
The legislators of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party Tuesday urged the speaker to accept their resignations.
