Andhra MP backs bifurcation of state

December 24th, 2009 - 8:40 pm ICT by IANS ( 1 comment )

Telangana Hyderabad, Dec 24 (IANS) When all MPs and legislators in Andhra Pradesh, irrespective of party affiliations, are divided along regional lines on the formation of Telangana, a Congress MP from coastal Andhra has come out in support of the division of the state.
Amlapuram Lok Sabha MP Harsha Kumar said he fully backed the bifurcation of the state and alleged that the recent agitation in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions was sponsored by some politicians with vested interests.

“It is better to separate amicably. It is not proper to create problems because it is people’s agitation in Telangana,” Harsha Kumar told reporters.

Harsha Kumar said all the parties had promised Telangana state in their election manifesto but had now gone back on it.

He also said the agitation in Andhra and Rayalaseema was a sponsored one.

“There is no agitation among people. It was sponsored by a group in the Congress which wants to destabilise the government. The TDP (Telugu Desam Party) supported it as it wants fresh elections while Praja Rajyam also wants to fish in troubled waters,” he said.
