Hyderabad, June 29 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Police’s CID has taken over probe into the leakage of call data records (CDRs) of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Joint Director V.V. Lakshminarayana and his friend Vasireddy Chandrabala.

A statement from the office of the director general of police here Friday said the CID has taken over the cases from Hyderabad and Cyberabad police.

The CDRs of Lakshminarayana and his friend were made public by YSR Congress Party last week while alleging a conspiracy by the CBI official against its leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who is currently in jail in the illegal assets case.

Lakshminarayana is heading the probe against Jaganmohan Reddy while his childhood friend Chandrabala is an employee of IBM.

The Cyberabad police on June 26 had booked a case against K. Yadagiri Reddy, senior correspondent, Telugu daily “Sakshi” owned by Jaganmohan Reddy and M. Srinivasa Rao, police inspector, Nacharam police station.

The case was booked on a complaint by Chandrabala, who alleged that Sakshi news channel telecast a programme to cause injury to her dignity and reputation by making public the confidential information of the call details of her mobile phone.

Lakshminarayana also lodged a complaint with Hyderabad police, which registered a case under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Information Technology Act 2000, Indian Telegraph Act 1885 and Official Secrets Act 1923. He, however, did not name anybody in his complaint.

YSR party on June 21 had revealed the details of the calls Lakshminarayana made to Chandrabala and journalists of rival media groups.

Accusing Lakshminarayana of bias in the investigations against Jaganmohan Reddy, the party claimed Chandrabala made 328 calls to Lakshminarayana while the latter called her 411 times during last two months.

The party also alleged that Chandrabala also made calls to a managing director of a vernacular daily carrying stories against Jaganmohan Reddy and also to a top police officer.
