Ahmedabad, Aug 3 (IANS) The hearing on a plea filed by former deputy superintendent of police N.K. Amin to turn approver in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shootout has been adjourned by a court till Aug 10.
Amin, himself an accused in the case, is in jail in connection with the disappearance of Sheikh’s wife Kausarbi.

He had filed an application in the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court to turn an approver.

His eight co-accused policemen, including Indian Police Service officers D.G. Vanzara, and Rajkumar Pandian — have opposed his plea.

The CBI told the court Tuesday that presently it did not require the help of Amin as it already had strong evidence in support of its case.

The CBI said it would take a statement from the police officer about the case on the basis of which it would decide whether to support his move for turning an approver or remain an accused.

The court would also hear Vanzara and his other co-accused before deciding on Amin’s application.

Amin is suspected to have played a key role in the elimination of Kausarbi and was also a witness in the Sheikh’s killing.

Former minister of state for home Amit Shah is also an accused in

the case and is lodged in the Sabarmati central jail along with other accused.

In another development, the hearing on the bail application of Raju Jirawala, the owner of the Arham farm house near Gandhinagar, where Kausarbi was allegedly killed before her body was taken to Illol village in Sabarkantha district for burning, was postponed till Aug 5.

Meanwhile, the CBI is reported to have questioned Shah’s staff.

The CBI has also renewed the non-bailable warrants against Ajay Patel and Yashpal Chudasma, chairman and director respectively of the Ahmedabad district co-operative bank, who are absconding.

In the Tulsiram Prajapati alleged stage shootout case, the principal accused and the then district superintendent of police, Vipul Agrawal, has filed a bail application in the Palanpur sessions court. The hearing for the plea is fixed for Aug 5.
