Alliance with JD-U in Jharkhand depends on Bihar accord: BJPFebruary 28th, 2009 - 6:13 pm ICT by IANS
Ranchi, Feb 28 (IANS) Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj, who is in charge of her party’s affairs in Jharkhand, Saturday said any alliance with Janata Dal-United (JD-U) in the state would depend on the seat sharing arrangement between both parties in Bihar.
Swaraj was in Ranchi on a two-day visit to assess the situation and galvanise the party workers for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BJP has already announced candidates for 11 of the total 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
The JD-U, which wanted to contest at least four Lok Sabha seats in the state, is unhappy with the development and is holding a crucial meeting in Ramgarh district Saturday to decide what follow-up action it should take.
“Any alliance with the JD-U in Jharkhand would be decided after seat sharing formula between the BJP and the JD-U is worked out in Bihar. Arun Jaitley, who is in charge of Bihar, is holding a dialogue with the JD-U leaders about seat sharing,” Swaraj told reporters here.
She ruled out any possibility that any seats for which the candidate’s name has been announced would be given to the JD-U.
The BJP leader also demanded immediate dissolution of the state assembly and fresh elections to it.
