Allegations against ministers’ sons ‘baseless’:Vijayan
February 7th, 2009 - 2:13 pm ICT by IANSBadagara (Kerala), Feb 7 (IANS) Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Kerala state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan Saturday dismissed as “baseless” the allegations of a woman doctor that the sons of two ministers were involved in a fraud by a financial company in the state capital. Addressing reporters here, Vijayan, who is on a state-wide march, said that such allegations have been made for some time now.
“Just because ministers have children, it is an easy way to project them as accused. One can understand if there was an iota of truth in what an accused herself has revealed. This is totally baseless,” said Vijayan.
The fraud surfaced in September last year when 20-year-old Sabarinath was arrested by the police after his firm, Total4U in Thiruvananthapuram closed down, cheating more than 3,000 investors of more than Rs.5 billion.
Sabarinath had launched his firm in 2007, offering Rs.160,000 on an investment of Rs.100,000 for three months.
Following investigations, the state police arrested 11 of the 20 people who were chargesheeted.
Dr Remani, a Kollam-based doctor who also figured on the chargesheet, managed to stay her arrest after approaching the Supreme Court.
Speaking to media persons Friday after testifying before before the Thiruvananthapuram additional chief judicial magistrate, she alleged Sabarinath was just a tool and the real culprits included the sons of state Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Health Minister P.K.Sremathy.
“The ongoing probe is a cover up and is meant to save the real culprits and it includes the children of these two ministers. I have all the evidence for that and it would be given to the court. Only a CBI investigation would reveal the truth,” Remani said.
Responding to queries on if the party will go in for an investigation to find out if there was any truth in Remani’s allegations, a peeved Vijayan shot back: “For what should a probe be launched. There is no need for any inquiry because someone is saying something”.
Meanwhile, Balakrishnan told reporters that all Remani’s revelations were nothing but a ploy and an easy escape route to get away from crimes by dropping names.
“Let the court examine all the things,” he said.
