Los Angeles, Aug 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Reverend Al Sharpton has been named as the host of the new MSNBC show “Politics Nation.” The announcement was made by the CEO of the network, Phil Griffin on Tuesday. The pastor and civil rights activists has spoken about his new assignment for the first time since the announcement was made.

During an interview with TheWrap shortly after the announcement was made, Sharpton revealed that he accepted the opportunity to have his own television program because of the influence the traditional media still have on the American public. He used the example of the Tea Party and the opportunity that FOX extended to the movement prior to the midterm elections in 2010.

On why he chose MSNBC for his show, Sharpton said that, “One, we have had a working relationship with MSNBC. The last two years of my civil rights movement (the National Action Network), we’ve had the “Black Agenda” special — the infamous debate with Cornel West and President Obama was that special. But secondly, the shows after 5 p.m. are opinionated shows like Fox.”

Sharpton said he is ready for the show and it will no way affect his job and other interest. He rather sees it as an opportunity to spread his activism.

Sharpton’s show has been given the 6 pm slot on the network.
