Chandigarh, Feb 11 (IANS) The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab Thursday announced it will move a privilege motion against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the budget session of parliament over the ‘clean chit’ given to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is also the Punjab deputy chief minister, said he has asked Akali members of parliament (MPs) to move a privilege motion against the Congress-led UPA government for giving a false statement as ‘clean chit’ to Tytler.

Describing Tytler as the “architect of the 1984 Sikh carnage”, the Akali Dal chief said the Central Bureau of Investigation’s “clean chit” to Tytler on the instructions of the union government in a Delhi court was counter to an assurance by leader of the house Pranab Mukherjee that all those responsible for the 1984 riots would be punished.

Badal said the Congress party by giving an assurance in parliament on the one hand and on the other instructing the CBI to give a clean chit to Tytler was committing breach of privilege of the house.

He added that Akali Dal MPs would request Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to initiate a privilege motion against the union government and refer the matter to the privileges committee of the house.

Badal accused the Congress party of adopting all tactics to save the skin of Tytler, fearing exposure of the role of prominent Congress party leaders behind the cold-blooded massacre of Sikhs.

He said that till the people responsible for the carnage were controlling the reigns of the Congress party, Sikhs cannot expect justice in the UPA regime.

Describing the clean chit given by the CBI to Jagdish Tytler as “a shocking outrage against all norms of civilized society, jurisprudence and natural justice”, Badal said that “the 1984 riots’ victims were being killed a second time through this denial of justice even a quarter of a century after the crime took place”.
