Ajay Chautala to contest from Dabwali in Haryana polls
September 22nd, 2009 - 12:07 am ICT by IANSChandigarh, Sep 21 (IANS) Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) general secretary Ajay Chautala will contest from Dabwali constituency in Sirsa district in the forthcoming October assembly polls.
INLD political affairs committee member Abhey Singh Chautala announced this while declaring the party’s third list, comprising seven candidates, here Monday evening.
INLD, which is the main opposition party to the ruling Congress in Haryana, had earlier declared its candidates for 74 seats out of 90 assembly seats in the state.
The Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government had sought early polls and recommended the assembly’s dissolution seven months ahead of its term was to end. The Congress, led in 59 assembly segments of the 90-member assembly in the general elections this May, winning nine of ten Lok Sabha seats from the state.
Former chief minister and father of Ajay and Abhey, Om Parkash Chautala is contesting from the Uchana Kalan and Elenabad seats in Jind and Sirsa districts respectively.
Ajay Chautala is former member of parliament (MP) from Bhiwani seat in Haryana. He lost this seat in May 2009 general elections to Shruti Choudhary, the granddaughter of former chief minister Bansi Lal.
Assembly elections in Haryana will be held Oct 13 and the votes will be counted Oct 22.
