Coimbatore, April 6 (IANS) Ruling out the possibility of a coalition government in Tamil Nadu, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat Wednesday said the AIADMK will get absolute majority in the state assembly elections.

“The AIADMK will get absolute majority in the elections and the issue of coalition government does not arise,” Karat told reporters in Coimbatore, around 500 km from the state capital Chennai.

“The people of Tamil Nadu, who are suffering from price hike and corruption, want a change,” Karat said.

According to him, the prospects looked bright for the AIADMK-led front in which the CPI-M is a part.

Referring to the seizure of huge amounts of cash meant for distribution among voters, Karat said the election commission should intensify its raids in the state.

On the row over the proposed nuclear power plants in India, the Left leader said the government should order a review of the existing reactors while putting a halt to construction of new ones.

He said the proposed reactors for the Jaitapur plant in Maharashtra are untested in any part of the world and the decision to purchase these should be dropped.

The CPI-M is contesting 12 seats in the April 13 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
