AIADMK legislators’ suspension revoked
January 11th, 2011 - 5:29 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Jan 11 (IANS) The Tamil Nadu assembly Tuesday revoked the suspension of nine AIADMK legislators, who were suspended from the House Monday for unruly behaviour prior to Governor Surjit Singh Barnala’s customary address to the first sitting of the assembly during the year.Legislators belonging to two Left parties and MDMK Tuesday urged the house to revoke the AIADMK members’ suspension so that they can participate in the session.
Taking a dig at the two communist parties, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi wondered why they did not protest strongly as they do now when 10 DMK legislators were disqualified years ago.
In 1986, when the AIADMK was in power, 10 DMK legislators were disqualified for holding anti-Hindi agitation.
“We are ready to forget and forgive,” the chief minister.
The nine suspended lawmakers are K. Hari, Pollachi Jayaraman, S. Velumani, D. Jayakumar, L. Ravichandran, Agri Krishnamurthy, C.Ve. Shanmugham, Senthil Balaji and Panduranjan.
Barnala’s customary address to the year’s first assembly sitting Jan 7 was marred when the opposition members, wearing black shirts as a mark of protest, stood up and started shouting slogans against the DMK government.
O. Panneerselvam, the deputy leader of the AIADMK, began reading a statement criticising the government. This was followed by another round of slogan shouting and opposition members rushed towards the speaker’s podium.
Speaker R. Avudaiyappan ordered the eviction of the opposition members belonging to the AIADMK, MDMK, CPI-M and CPI.
