AIADMK, DMDK agree on poll pact
March 4th, 2011 - 11:55 pm ICT by IANSChennai, March 4 (IANS) Tamil Nadu’s major opposition party AIADMK and the DMDK Friday reached an electoral pact, with the latter getting 41 seats for the April 13 assembly polls.
Led by actor-turned politican Vijayakanth, the DMDK is expected to strengthen the AIADMK-led alliance’s challenge to the ruling DMK.
The DMK has, meanwhile, arrived at seat-sharing deals with KMK, MMK, VCK, PMK and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), allotting them seven, one, 10, 31 and three seats respectively.
A final decision on the DMK-Congress pact is expected soon.
The single-phase polls will be held April 13 in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and votes will be counted May 13.
