Advani, Modi to campaign in Tamil Nadu (Lead)May 6th, 2009 - 7:59 pm ICT by IANS
Chennai, May 6 (IANS) Top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including L.K. Advani and Narendra Modi, are set to make a whirlwind tour of Tamil Nadu, where elections are scheduled May 13 in the last phase of the staggered Lok Sabha polls.
“Prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Rajnath Singh and (veteran) film star Hema Malini will be campaigning for our own and alliance candidates in Tamil Nadu,” K.T. Raghavan, the party’s state media in-charge, told IANS.
Advani is scheduled to arrive in Tuticorin Thursday morning by a chartered flight and will address the media at Nagercoil.
He will then address an election meeting in Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram constituency in the afternoon and in Chennai in the evening before flying back to New Delhi.
Senior leader Venkaiah Naidu, who is on a week-long tour to the state, is scheduled to address election meetings in Tuticorin, Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Vellore, Trichy, Pollachi, Erode and Nilgiri.
The BJP is contesting from 12 of the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
Modi is expected to visit Tamil Nadu May 9 and Rajnath Singh May 10.
“The tour programmes of Modi, Singh and Hema Malini are yet to be finalised,” said Raghavan.
