Advani blames Congress for farmer suicidesApril 15th, 2009 - 10:34 pm ICT by IANS
Bhubaneswar, April 15 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani Wednesday, at a rally in Orissa, said that farmer suicides are happening only in Congress-ruled states and blamed the party for their plight.
“Farmers are committing suicides in Congress-ruled states such as Maharastra and Andhra Pradesh,” Advani said addressing a rally in Puri town, some 56 km here.
Attacking the United Progressive Alliance government for going soft on terrorism, the BJP leader said parliament attack convict Afzal Guru is still not punished even after the Supreme Court upheld his death sentence.
“It is because of the vote bank politics,” he said.
Advani said if voted to power his party would bring back Indian money stashed in tax havens abroad and use it for the development of the country.
Orissa will vote to elect 121-member state assembly and 21 members to the Lok Sabha April 16 and 23.
