Ranchi, March 5 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) senior leader L.K. Advani will Friday kick off the election campaign in Jharkhand, a state from where the party has no member in the Lok Sabha.
He will begin with a “huge election rally” Friday evening in the steel city of Jamshedpur, from where former chief minister and senior party leader Arjun Munda will contest, state BJP president Raghubar Das told IANS.
In the 1999 Lok Sabha election, the party won 12 of the 14 seats in the state. The following election in 2004 saw the fortunes of the party dip, leaving it with only one seat. And that too was taken away when Koderma MP Babulal Marandi left the party, quit the Lok Sabha and retained the seat by winning the by-election as an Independent.
