Adjournment motion should be with voting, says CPI-M
November 23rd, 2011 - 8:49 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Wednesday said that the debate on the adjournment motion in parliament on price rise should be held with voting so that there is pressure on the government to act.
“The discussion (on adjournment motion) should only be held under the rule which entails voting, so that there is pressure built on the government to initiate concrete steps to curb inflation and check price rise,” CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury told reporters outside parliament.
Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurdas Dasgupta has announced to move an adjournment motion on the issue of price rise, for which other Left parties and the Naional Democratic Alliance (NDA) have declared support.
There are two kinds of adjournment motions — one with voting under Section 184 and the other without voting under Section 193 of the parliamentary procedure.
Yechury said the resolutions without voting, which were discussed in earlier sessions, did not yield results.
“Left parties feel there is no use of holding another discussion on price rise. Already two discussions have taken place on the issue in both the last two sessions of parliament… but the government has not initiated any concrete steps to check inflation and price rise,” Yechury said.
