Achuthanandan unruffled over adverse poll surveys
May 11th, 2011 - 5:59 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, May 11 (IANS) Even as six out of seven post poll surveys have predicted the exit of the ruling Left Front government in Kerala, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan remained cool Wednesday as he chaired the last cabinet meeting of his current term, his aides said.
Addressing reporters later, the 87-year-old Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) veteran was unruffled and smiling while saying that the post-poll predictions did not sound good.
“Please wait till 13th (Friday, when the votes will be counted). It’s very near,” the chief minister told reporters seeking his reaction on the exit poll predictions on TV channels.
“We are happy that around 65 percent of people have said that our government has done a lot of things for them. It’s nice to hear that,” Achuthanandan said referring to a post-poll survey.
The results of the April 13 polls for the 140 member assembly will be announced Friday.
Post-poll surveys by the Asianet, Headlines Today, News24, Jai Hind TV, CVB News and Star News channels predicted the Left Front government would lose power. Only CNN-IBN said the result was too close to call.
The chief minister said “good bye” to the media in typical “V.S. style”, with his hands folded, smiling and posing for the cameras.
