ABVP tops in Delhi University polls
September 4th, 2010 - 4:15 pm ICT by IANS New Delhi, Sep 4 (IANS) The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), virtually swept the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) polls Saturday winning three of the four seats.
Jitender Chaudhary, Priya Dabas and Neetu Dabas bagged the posts of president, vice-president and secretary of DUSU respectively. The post of joint secretary went to Akshay Kumar of National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party.
A mere 40 percent of the electorate had turned out Friday for polling.
Altogether, 41 students were in fray for the four posts of president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary. A total of 11 candidates had contested for the post of DUSU president.
Last year, an ABVP-backed independent candidate had won the post of president after disqualification of official candidates of both NSUI and ABVP.
