Patna, April 1 (IANS) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad’s nephew Anil Rai has been detained here and his car seized in connection with an alleged attempt to abduct Ajay Kumar, former president of the Indian Medical Association, the police said Tuesday. Rai, a reputed urologist, was held and interrogated late Monday.
“Anil Rai has been detained for interrogation as the car used for the alleged attempt to kidnap Dr Ajay Kumar was registered in his name,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Sridhar Mandal.
Kumar told police that four youths travelling in an ambassador car tried to intercept him near the gate of Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park. They chased him but failed to overtake his car, as there were people present on the road, police sources said.
The doctor informed the police and provided the registration number of the ambassador car that had followed him.
The youths had abandoned the car on the roadside and the police found that it belonged to Rai.
Lalu’s nephew, however, denied having anything to do with the incident. He said that his driver had taken the car somewhere.
Police have begun a hunt for Rai’s driver.
