18 Delhi Police officials named for President’s medals
January 25th, 2011 - 11:23 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 25 (IANS) Delhi Police have received three President’s medals for gallantry (1st Bar), two for distinguished service and 13 for meritorious service on the occasion of the Republic Day this year.
Taj Hassan Mohamed of the Indian Police Service (IPS), at present joint commissioner for security, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Rewat Ram have been awarded medals for distinguished service while Inspector Rajender Singh, Inspector Jarnail Singh and Head Constable Satyender Singh have been awarded gallantry medals.
Inspector Anil Kumar Mittal, Sub-Inspector Kali Charan, assistant sub-inspectors Uday Vir Sharma and Pushpa, head constables Virender Singh, Bhoj Raj Singh and Gyan Amba, as well as constables Ghanshyam Dass, Ghanshyam Dass, Nihal Singh, Girish Kumar Singh, Hari Kishan, Satpal Singh and Kusum Pal Singh have been named for meritorious service medals.
An encounter between the police and a gang of bank robbers in Green Park area in January 2009 was cited as a highly professional police operation.
Inspector Rajender Singh, Station House Officer of Lodhi Colony - at present SHO of Saket - along with Inspector Jarnail Singh and Head Constable Satyender performed an extraordinary effort that led to a successful operation in which seven members of the Satte-Bittu gang were arrested after a shootout during a bank robbery attempt in the Green Park area Jan 19, 2009.
Four automatic pistols along with huge quantity of cartridges, nine cellular phones, two daggers, four robbed cars and one motorcycle used in crime were recovered from the gang’s possession.
Four criminals, including gang leader Satya Prakash alias Satte, gangsters Nadeem, Shakeel and their associate Kuldeep were critically injured in the daylight shoot-out.
The gun battle between heavily armed bank robbers and the police in broad daylight in Green Park residential-commercial area with no injuries to public person and minimum injuries to the police team, while inflicting critical injuries to the assailants, was cited as a highly professional example of a police operation.
