Berlin, Aug 31 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Authorities in Germany says Yvonne the runaway cow will now be allowed to roam freely in the Bavarian woods. The brown and white animal escaped from its farm about three months ago and the authorities announced Monday that they have called off the hunt for the animal. That means the animal is now permanently free.

Yvonne is six years old and it escaped from the farm where it was being fattened to be slaughtered. After escaping on the 24th of May, the authorities in the town of Muhldorf decreed that anyone who sees the animal can shoot and kill it. The announcement was received with widespread condemnation with several activists pleading for the life of the animal to be spared.

Animal right activists joined the search for the animal in order to save it but Yvonne has always evaded capture. The town have subsequently called off the search for the animal and granted her permanent freedom to roam around.

Officials announced on Monday that, “As the animal no longer constitutes an acute threat to road traffic in its current location, no major search or capture operations are necessary. Muhldorf district office requests that the animal not be disturbed in its current habitat.”

The announcement has been welcomed by activists who say the animal’s will to live gained her the freedom.
