World’s hottest chilli contest leaves two in hospital
October 7th, 2011 - 12:28 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattEdinburgh, Oct 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Kismot Restaurant’s world’s hottest chili pepper contest sent two people to the hospital. Owner of the restaurant says he will review the regulations in the future to ensure that the incident does to re-occur.
The emergency services were called in when some of the contestants were sickened by the spice. Some of the competitors fell on the floor and writhed in pains. The serious one was a contestant who fainted during the contest. The challenge was to eat the curry “Kismot Killer.”
One of the contestants who had to be rushed to the hospital twice told newsmen that, “I’ve always enjoyed spicy foods and thought this was for a good cause. But it came with a price, I had to be taken to the ERI twice. I first went to hospital at around 4pm and the second time was at 9pm. It got really bad. I have never endured such pain in my life.”
The Scottish ambulance service said the competition came at a cost to them as well. The spokesperson for the agency told reporters that they spent thousands of pounds to respond to the emergency calls.
20 people signed up to take part in the contest but after the experience of the first batch of 10, five of the remaining contestants opted out.
