Woman gives birth as Indonesian cafe burns, kills 11

JAKARTA (BNO NEWS) — An Indonesian woman gave birth on Friday as the cafe she was in burnt down, police said. She and her child, as well as at least nine others, were killed.

The country’s National Disaster Management Agency said Cafe Redboxx on the second floor of the Pakuwon trade Center in Surabaya, the capital of Indonesia’s East Java province, caught fire at around 3.20 a.m. local time while visitors were watching a World Cup match.

At the time, Denmark was playing against Japan in Rustenburg while Cameroon played against the Netherlands in Cape Town.

A spokesman for the agency said at least 11 people had been killed, including the child which was born during the fire. A Japanese and one Australian were also among the fatalities.

An unknown number of people were injured in the blaze.
