Feb 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The authorities for the Russian Providence of Belgorod are strongly encouraging schools and other state institutions to ban any celebrations of Valentine’s Day, with conservative Russians claims the holiday is an “unhealthy foreign phenomenon.”

It is part of an initiative for “measures to provide for spiritual security,” by banning not only Valentine’s Day, but Halloween as well. According to the provincial government consultant, “The very atmosphere of these holidays does not foster the formation of spiritual and moral values in youth, and holding them primarily benefits commercial organizations.”

The state run new agency announced that the ban was signed by the top deputy of Belgorad’s governor, and “blessed” by the Orthodox Bishop of Russia. Night clubs and other businesses in the area are also urged to avoid celebrating the holiday.
