London, Nov 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Some brave thieves did the unthinkable when they broke into a prison facility in Britain’s Preston and made away with £8,000 worth of cigarettes. The facility called Kirkham Prison is valued to be one of the most secured in the United Kingdom.

In a huge embarrassment to the security at the facility, officials say the thieves scaled the walls and made it into the facility before getting away with the cigarettes which were stored in a warehouse belonging to the courier service DHL.

A source close to the prison told the British newspaper The Mirror that, “Normally the inmates can’t wait to get OUT of here… so having the opposite happen has caused much mirth. One theory is it was an inside job. At night security is pretty non-existent. There are not enough prison officers to check the whole perimeter.”

A spokesperson for the British Justice Ministry said the case is being investigated by the police. The newspaper’s source said the CCTV cameras at the facility are being closely examined to determine if the thieves could be identified.

Some of the inmates at the facility reportedly work at the workshop where the theft took place. The DHL workshop is used by the courier service to store supplies meant for other jails.
