girlAug 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Beware! A new form of identity theft has hit the world in the recent past. The thieves are no longer interested in the Social Security Numbers of working men and women but are rather more interested in securing the same of little children! It does not really matter to the thieves that the children featuring on their target list do not even earn their own money, and so they do not even have a bank account.

So what do the thieves gain by pursuing such a kind of identity theft? In the report that has been doing the rounds for some time now, it is being said that various online business dealers use their computers to track the existing dormant Social Security Numbers. A dormant SS number means one which has been assigned to children who do not even have to use these numbers. The thieves reportedly sell the dormant Social Security Numbers which they have obtained under a false name to help people who are neck deep in debts, debts that they will probably never clear. The recent phenomenon which has hit online businesses may prove to be a threat to the credit system of the country.

The United States has just recovered from the recession, and politicians believe that if this system of identity theft continues, the country will again face financial instability. However the crime falls under the legal gray area, hence no arrests can be made. The first signs of the existing phenomenon was discovered by Julia Jensen, an FBI agent while she was investigating a fraud case in the Kansas City.
