Idaho, Mar 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 21-year-old Idaho man has found himself on the wrong side of the law after he tricked another motorist with his smart phone app. As it later turned out, the idea to use the app on other drivers was not that smart.

Alexander Welch allegedly used a blue-and-red light application to trick a driver to believe that it was the police. When the man approached Welch, he realized he was not a police officer. He subsequently trailed him and reported his conduct to the police.

The police arrested Welch and charged him with unlawful exercise of a police function. According to the Idaho Statesman, Welch is being held at the Ada County Jail. He is expected to appear before a judge very soon.

The police confirmed the arrest saying that when they picked Welch up, they found the smart phone in his car with the application installed on it.

The incident happened on Saturday night and the media has dubbed the case ‘smart phone and a dumb idea.’ Was really a dumb idea to try the application on other motorists. A judge would decide later if Welch will be spending some time behind bars for his actions.
