August 1, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Valentin Mejillones happens to be an Aymara priest of Bolivia. He had given his blessing to the Bolivian President, Evo Morales, at a swearing in ceremony four years ago. The priest has now been detained as he had been found to hold 530 pounds of cocaine. This data was revealed by the police personnel on Thursday.
The anti-narcotics police force in the Andean country discovered a cocaine laboratory in the residence of priest Mejillones. His son and a Colombian twosome were also arrested. The stash of gooey cocaine confiscated in the incursion was valued at $240,000.
Mejillones has asserted to the Bolivian media that he had been duped by the Colombians. The Bolivian Vice President, Alvaro Garcia, has declared that Evo Morales had not selected the priest to take the chair at the customary swearing-in service at the consecrated Tiwanaku remains.
Garcia has revealed that Mejillones happened to be an individual, who traveled within the abovementioned Andean religious structure. Garcia has guaranteed that the priest will not receive any kind of unlawful protection from the state during the process of legal justice.
Evo Morales happens to be an Aymara Indian. He was previously a coca farmer. Morales was established in office in 2006 as the initial indigenous President of Bolivia. He first gained eminence as an organizer of the nation’s chief coca-growers’ association. This association was resisting American endeavors to curb the nurturing of the major ingredient in cocaine. Coca is supported by many Bolivian peasants as a cash crop. After occupying the Presidentship, he has ejected the US Drug Enforcement Agency from Bolivia. He has previously mentioned that the Bolivians manufacture coca, transport it to the major markets and vend it. They are, in no way, responsible for the selling of cocaine.
