President Obama’s podium stolen
October 19th, 2011 - 7:56 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattRichmond, Va., Oct 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) US law enforcement officers announced on Tuesday that they have recovered the stolen van which contained President Barack Obama’s teleprompter and podium seals. The van was reportedly stolen from a hotel parking lot ahead of the president’s appearance in Chesterfield on Wednesday.
According to NBC12, the van was parked at the Virginia Center Commons Courtyard Marriott near Richmond. The van also contained audio equipments worth about $200,000 but the security forces have not stated if anything was missing from the vehicle when it was recovered.
NBC12 reported that officials traced the van to Holiday Inn Express near the Richmond airport on Monday at about 12:30 in the afternoon. The report did not indicate if any arrests were made but the US Defense Information Systems Agency released a statement on Tuesday.
The statement said, “A government vehicle was stolen and has been recovered. No classified or sensitive information was in the vehicle. We take incidents such as this very seriously, and a formal investigation is continuing in coordination with relevant law enforcement agencies.”
