Police called into Walmart store over a bleach fight
October 10th, 2011 - 7:14 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLansdowne, Bal., Oct 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Saturday, the police were called into a Walmart shop in Baltimore when two women started a bleach war. When the police got to the scene, they forced the shop to shut and evacuated everyone from inside the shop because the toxic chemical had escaped to the air. Emergency response units, including the EMS and the Fire Department were called to the shop to handle the spill.
Officials say 19 people, including three employees of the shop, required various degrees of treatment because of the exposure to the toxic chemicals. Officials say one person suffered severe injury to the eye and had to be sent to the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment.
The police have arrested the instigator of the fight and given her various assault charges. 33-year-old Theresa Monique Jefferson reportedly followed the other woman to the shop and attacked her. It is believed that Theresa attacked because she has a child with the woman’s boyfriend.
A spokesperson of Walmart confirmed the incident in a statement and said that, “this is obviously not the type of behavior we would expect from people at our stores. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused to our customers.”
The company said the shop will remain closed until the entire facility has been cleaned and declared safe.
