Dec 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) 71-year-old Peter Lawrence has been sentenced to a long 21 years of jail after he drove inside a bank on his wheelchair and robbed it. Judge Jeffrey Fraser pronounced the verdict on Friday saying that Peter Lawrence will come out of prison at such an age when he will be not in a condition to indulge himself in any kind of anti-social activity. He said that the senior citizen was a threat to the society as he knows how to apply an actual weapon. According to the court, it is likely that Peter Lawrence might use a real weapon in the future. The judge is said to have taken his decision based on this issue.
Peter Lawrence is practically ill and there are questions rising about his verdict. Many claim that the decision on the part of the law is simply ridiculous. His defense lawyer Kenneth Kaminiski has said that Peter Lawrence did not intend to harm any one. His only intention was to seek a way out for a better life since he did not wish to live on the streets any more. The 71-year-old man has confessed to the court that he robbed a Chase bank in San Diego of an amount more than $2,000. According to reports, the only weapon he had with himself during the crime was a BB gun.
He said that the only reason behind him doing so was his frustrations and anger after he learned that he was the victim of several health problems. The crime, reportedly, took place this summer. According to sources, many claim that the judgment pronounced is too harsh for a 71-year-old man as he does not deserve a prison sentence to the extent of 21 years for robbing an amount of $2,000.
