sbdrugbustJune 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Authorities in Southern California have busted a vehicle which carried $45 million worth of narcotics. The truck was initially stopped for traffic violations but once the huge quantity of the drugs carried by the vehicle was discovered, the driver was charged with illegal possession and transportation of narcotics and the drugs seized.

The bust at San Bernardino County was called the biggest drug bust in the county by the Deputy Sheriff. The ‘overwhelming odor’ led the authorities to the back of the truck-trailer. They found the drugs stashed in pallets at the back of the truck. There was reportedly a total of 20 tons of narcotics that included 38000 pounds of marijuana, 2700 pounds of cocaine and 67 pounds of methamphetamine. The total street value of the drugs was estimated to be $45 million. Fernando Luevano, the 32 year old driver was taken into custody and multiple charges were levied against him.

Fernando Luevano was initially stopped by the traffic authorities for a traffic violation. The problem became more complicated as the papers for the load in his truck were found to be fishy. He then gave consent for the search of the trailer which led to investigators finding the stacks of the illegal drugs. The county’s narcotics department is continuing the investigations with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration). The local Sheriff promised that he will take every possible step to aggressively fight the drug traffickers who enter San Bernardino County. Timothy J. Landrum, the DEA Special Agent in-charge said that the drugs could have ended up in neighborhoods throughout California and such a bust has a direct impact on the communities across the state.
