Oklahoma mother gets 10 years behind bars for $31 worth of marijuana sale
February 23rd, 2011 - 7:48 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattOklahoma, Feb 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 25-year-old Oklahoma woman has been given 10 years behind bars for selling $31 worth of marijuana.
The woman, Patricia Marilyn Spottedcrow, and her mother, Delita Starr, were arrested after they sold $31 marijuana to a police informant. The pair was arrested later and charged with drug distribution and possession of a dangerous substance in the presence of a minor. When the sale of the drugs were going on, Patricia’s four children were present.
When they appeared in court the prosecutors offered the two plea bargains but they refused it and entered a plea. That proved to be a wrong mistake because after the trial Patricia was sentenced to 10 years for distribution of marijuana. She was also sentenced to two years for possession of marijuana. The sentences though would run concurrently.
Starr though managed to escape prison time. The judge decided that she should be around to take care of Patricia’s children.
Patricia worked in nursing homes and in an interview with The Oklahoman she said she sold the pot to make some extra money. Interestingly when she was arrested she had some marijuana in her jacket. That also earned her 2 years. It would run concurrently.
