Mystery of Grand Piano on Biscayne Bay Beach Sandbar Solved
January 28th, 2011 - 2:21 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonJan 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A grand piano was recently discovered to be located on a sandbar which was only about t2wo hundred yards from several condominiums located on Biscayne Bay in Miami Florida. A barrage of media coverage ensued, with many different speculation as to how the 650 pound instrument could have gotten to the sandbar. One person even commented that they did not believe the story was real, despite that fact that it was shown all over the major news networks.
When the story broke, officials had no idea how the huge piano could have gotten to the sandbar out in the middle of the bay. Since it was causing no harm to the wildlife or boaters in the area, it was going to remain where it was, on a spot of sand which is never covered by the tide.
A strange story indeed, but even stranger is the tale which solves the mystery of how the piano got there. The story is said by ‘Sentinel Sun’ to involve “a guy with a bagpipe, a rollicking New Year’s Eve party and a teenager looking to make a splash on his college admissions. Oh, and flammable liquid applied to a movie prop that was stored in Grandma’s garage for four years.”
The story started four years ago. The piano was used as a prop for a movie, and then stored in the garage of the mother of J Mark Harrington, the producer of ‘Burn Notice’. Then Nicolas Harrington, the grandson of the woman whose garage held the piano, got a brilliant idea. He was going to make a creative promotional video to get into college. In the video was to be the piano in the sandbar, a man with bagpipes, and a small submersible sub.
But at a New year’s Party, Nicolas was urged to set the piano on fire, and finally gave into the chants of nearly a hundred people. Afterward, the piano was lifted into the family’s 22 foot boat, and took to the sandbar where it sat mysteriously until a neighbor went out and took pictures. Many came forward to claim responsibility for the mystery, including William Yeager, a well known prankster who once claimed to be the son of Jimi Hendrix after painting his skin a darker tone. Nicolas’s mom, who wished to be unnamed, was a little saddened that her son solved the mystery, saying, “I loved it being a mystery. The allure was much more powerful than anything else.”
