Misspelling In Public School BillboardSep 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Misspelling can sometimes lead to disasters, and that is what has happened recently on a billboard for South Bend, Indiana public school billboard that invited passerby to visit the public schools of the area. Although the billboard was put with an intention to get more students at school, it turned out to be an embarrassment as it read “The 15 Best Things About Our Pubic Schools” instead of “The 15 Best Things About Our Public Schools”. The misspelling that flashed brightly on a digital billboard and was meant for Midwest school system, had become a cause of embarrassment not only for the school but also for the advertisement agency that put it on the giant screen.

A public relation firm, Blue Waters Group has taken full responsibility for the utterly embarrassing mistake. The firm has maintained that the mistake was overlooked by four people on the firm’s staff who did not notice the missing “L” in the message before approving it for display. Patrick Strickler, president of Blue Waters said, “I feel terrible. It’s a mistake we made and we’re guilty of it”. The message confused many passerby who took pictures of the sign board and posted it on social networking websites like Facebook.

The misspelled billboard went on for display on Thursday and remained without correction till Monday. However, once it was brought into the notice of the public relation firm that had approved it, the message was immediately pulled down and corrected. Patrick Strickler said that as soon as they came to know about the mistake, they ordered Burkhart [the billboard company] to take it down.
