Paris, Oct 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A French family literally had a lucky break. Coming back from vacation, the family found that a 4.5-billion-year-old meteorite had struck their family home in Paris. Fortunately, the meteorite was the size of an egg so the damage to the building was limited to the roof.

The family is counted among the few privileged ones in the world because meteorites are rare to find on earth especially in France. Scientists estimate that in the last four hundred years, only 60 meteorites have actually landed on a territory considered part of France.

The family says they did not hear the space object drop on their roof so that has got scientists speculating that it struck the house when the family was out on a holiday some weeks back. The family says they realized that something was wrong when their roof leaked when it rained.

Martine, the owner of the house, explained to reporters that, “We got the roof tiler round and he was astounded. He said: ‘You need to be Superman to break a tile like that! It must be a meteorite.’”

The family were astonished to realize that the tiler was right after all. They plan to keep the meteorite as a souvenir. It will interest you to know that the family’s last name is Comette!
