Metallic Spaceball falls from the sky in Namibia
December 23rd, 2011 - 9:30 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattWindhoek, Dec 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Namibian authorities have contacted NASA to investigate a mysterious metallic spaceball that dropped at a remote location in the country. Government officials explain that the object with a circumference of 1.1 meters dropped near a village in the northern part of the country.
Police say locals at the village reported hearing series of explosions before the mystery spaceball was found. European Space scientists have joined in the investigation to determine where the structure came from.
Officials explained that the ball has rough surface with a diameter of about 35 centimeters weighing six kilograms. A local police chief Paul Ludik told reporters that the ball seems to have “been welded together.”
When the object dropped, it made a hole which is 3.8 meters wide and 33 centimeters deep. Officials say the ball was found about 18 meters from where it dropped. This is not the first time that such an object has dropped in the southern African nation.
In the last 20 years, similar incidents have been reported in Australia, South America and Southern Africa.
Experts believe the ball may be from NASA’s “composite overwrapped pressure vessel” which is used to store gases in space under pressure.
