Mayor Massimo Botocci bans smelly kebabs
August 9th, 2011 - 8:00 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattRome, Aug 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An Italian mayor has taken the unusual step to ban “smelly” kebabs. Mayor Massimo Botocci announced on Saturday that he has his objection to the strong smells of sandwiches and kebabs explaining that they are not part of the Italian tradition.
Botocci is the mayor of Cittadella and a member of the populist Italian Northern League. The delicacies are banned from being sold in shops and restaurants in the city but they can be made at various homes for families who want to enjoy their treat.
In making the announcement, Botocci announced that kebabs and sandwiches are “not suited to our historic centre (because of) the way in which the foods are eaten, the smell they give off… If someone wants to eat a kebab, he can do it at home or outside of the historic centre. They aren’t part of our tradition.”
Botocci is known for introducing controversial laws in Cittadella. In 2009, he introduced a law that banned beggars and street sellers from the various streets of the city. Botocci has also proposed a new law which will make it mandatory for any person less than 16 years to do community service when the person is convicted of drinking alcohol.
