Matthew Hoffman killed 3 people & stuffed their bodies in a tree
January 8th, 2011 - 12:12 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattKnox County, Jan 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Matthew Hoffman has pleaded guilty to killing three people and stuffing their dismembered bodies in the trunk of a tree.
Hoffman who was also charged with kidnapping and raping one of her victim’s 13-year-old daughter, will avoid the death penalty after the trial. The prosecutors told the court that as part of the deal with Hoffman to reveal where the bodies of the family were, he was promised that the death penalty would not be sought. However he still has the life sentence to deal with.
Prosecutors described into chilling details how Hoffman killed Tina Herrmann, her 11-year-old son Kody Maynard and Stephanie Sprang. The investigators told the court that he broke into the home of Herrmann on the 10th day of November. He then killed Herrmann and Sprang who happened to be in the house at that time. He also killed the family’s dog.
When Kody and her sister later returned from school, they realized what has happened and the sister tried to call the police. Hoffman managed to stop her and he abducted her and Kody. Authorities say they are not sure when Hoffmann killed Kody but he tied up the girl in his basement where she was later rescued and her information led the police to arrest Hoffman.
